Nokia Plans to Launch 40 Biodegradable Green Mobile Phones HAckZ
Author: nspanspa // Category: Latest MobileNokia has announced a plan to launch 40 new biodegradable so called Green Mobile Phones in Indian this year. Company claims that the biodegradable mobile phones handsets would easily be recycled.
The recycling process is aimed to reduce the amount of other harmful components that otherwise pollute and damage environment. Nokia is also planning to introduce a biodegradable phone cover and recyclable batteries which otherwise use lithium and cadmium which are harmful substances.
Nokia has developed their first biodegradable Green Mobile Phone viz Nokia 3110 which uses about 65% recyclable materials and the company is already working to promote recycled mobile phones in USA markets.
Nokia plans to use polylactic acid (PLA) plastics with plant or other biomass based modifiers which are renewable, that helps to avoid the use of non-renewable materials. The biodegradable materials based elastomers are to be used to seal off the battery case. Nokia is also working to minimize the energy consumption by charging.
Nokia aims to use biodegradable mobile phone covers, batteries and other accessories. In addition, the company indicated its plans to reduce the power consumption of a standard mobile phone handset chargers by up to 50% before end of decade.
In a press release, Nokia said “We will be using biodegradable phone covers, recyclable battery designs that use less harmful toxic materials and energy efficient accessories for all our forthcoming phones. Already, we have eliminated the use of PVC (polyvinyl chloride) in all our phones.â€
Nokia also plans to make their consumers aware of the toxic material used in mobile phone handsets and wants Indian consumers to drop their old / used Nokia mobile phone handsets for recycling in a ‘Green Bin’ to be located across the country through its priority dealer centres.
